Term 2 is shaping up to be a big term for Physical Education. The Grade 5/6 students take part in the beep test which is used to measure aerobic fitness. All the Grade 5/6 classes have run a preliminary test and we will focus on being active during PE lessons this term with the intent of running the test again at the end of the term and comparing our scores. This test is a chance for children to understand the improvements they can make to their fitness by exercising.

DSC_1031Term 2 for the junior school will be just as busy. This term students will be focusing on improving the fundamental motor skills; underarm throw, overarm throw, catch etc. These fundamental motor skills are the building blocks of sports with many of them linking together. Concentrating on improving these skills gives children a great start when it comes to playing many of the sports and games we all love to play.DSC_0946

A great way to exercise is to run around the school’s cross country course, and this week all the Year 3-6 students have been doing just that. All students earn a house point for each lap of the 500m course they complete. The 9/10 year olds run a maximum of 4 laps and the 11, 12/13’s run a maximum of 6 laps. Students have embraced the opportunity to be active and earn house points and the winning house will be announced later this term. TDSC_0909he Athletics Carnival is being held on Tuesday  17 May so the senior school students will be busy practising all the skills they require for the different events. More will be posted about this event closer to the date as well as a call out for parent helpers.
