APR-CyberyAt Fairfield PS we are aware of the importance of students acting in a safe and responsible manner with digital technologies. Teachers throughout the school are incorporating cybersafety lessons into their learning programs.

These lessons include:

  • Increasing students’ awareness of online security settings
  • How to stay safe when using social networking sites
  • What to do if we become aware of misuse of digital technologies, including cyberbullying

The school recognises that many parents require support in assisting their child to be safe in the digital world. Attached are two documents published by the Department of Education with advice for parents.

The school is also exploring options to engage with experts in this field to deliver sessions to students, staff and parents.

NAPLAN Online

Fairfield PS is one of 200 Victorian schools involved in a NAPLAN online trial, as NAPLAN transitions from a paper-based test to an online assessment.

During the week beginning 15 August, Year 3 students in 3/4C and D, and 5B will sit a writing test and an omnibus test. The omnibus test consists of numeracy, reading, and language convention questions. The purpose of this trial is to assess the readiness of the platform; it is not an assessment tool from which the school will use the date. Parents of students involved in this process will receive further information before the trial begins.

In 2017 the NAPLAN tests will be conducted via the online platform for all Year 3 and 5 students at Fairfield Primary. In 2018 the NAPLAN tests will be conducted online in all schools.

Benefits of NAPLAN Online:

  • Reduced time between testing and reporting
  • A more engaging test design and a wider range of item types
  • The extension of the test window to two weeks
  • A tailored test design that adapts to correct and incorrect answers

Year 6-7 Transition

Parents of students in Year 6 will receive a letter from the school next week, informing them of their child’s secondary school placement. All details of the next steps will be provided in the letter of offer from the secondary schools.

Year 3/4 Concert ‘The Wizard of Oz’

Last night was the opening night for the Year 3/4 concert. This year we are fortunate to be working alongside Thornbury High School in a production of The Wizard of Oz. Last night’s performance was a unique opportunity for FPS to collaborate with our local high school, taking part in a high quality performance. Congratulations to all of the students on their efforts in helping to make this a memorable occasion.

We wish the remaining students who will perform over the next two evenings, an equally memorable experience.
