Grades 1 - 6 Transition

transition 1-6

At Fairfield Primary School we understand that some families may need to change primary school during the course of a child’s year. This process may be daunting for families and, when children enroll in the school throughout the year, we are mindful that they need to be well supported to ensure a successful transition. We have both formal and informal processes in place to support the transition for students and families. Every new student at Fairfield Primary School is assigned a buddy to help him or her develop confidence and feel comfortable within the school. We also operate a new student lunchtime program to support and foster the wellbeing of the newest members of our learning community.

New families to the community are also welcomed and invited to the many community events that we have scheduled. Sometimes, it is merely a matter of linking a family to a neighboring family for some initial support and contact. As always, we are guided by the interests of the individual family.

As well as this, all students participate in an orientation program that prepares students for the following year. This program coincides with our Foundation orientation program in Term 4. All students experience a number of sessions during which they transition to their new classroom along with their new classmates and teacher for the forthcoming year.
