Grades 1 – 6 Transition

transition 1-6

At Fairfield Primary School we understand that some families may need to change primary school during the course of a child’s year. This process may be daunting for families and, when children enroll in the school throughout the year, we are mindful that they need to be well supported to ensure a successful transition. We have both formal and informal processes in place to support the transition for students and families.

New families to the community are also welcomed and invited to the many community events that we have scheduled. Sometimes, it is merely a matter of linking a family to a neighbouring family for some initial support and contact. As always, we are guided by the interests of the individual family.

As well as this, junior school students participate in a ‘step-up’ program that helps to prepare them for the following year. This program runs in term four, and students experience time in the classroom of the next year level,  becoming familiar with the rooms and processes they will experience in the coming year.
