At Fairfield Primary School, we are committed to sustainability and making our school a more sustainable environment.
Fairfield Primary School is registered for the sustainability program ResourceSmart which aims to assist schools to embed sustainability into everything they do. Our ResourceSmart journey is complemented by strong community involvement.
Students at Fairfield Primary School are involved in sustainable practices which include; auditing of our school waste, a Nude Food Day, a Walk to School Month as well as a Walk to School Celebration Day where they liaised with Darebin Council to provide fresh fruit for every student.
We also have a parent working group dedicated towards making change on a systemic level. Some of the key actions parents have initiated include; a screening of the documentary A Plastic Ocean to raise awareness of pollution, instigated a waste management trial including composting and soft plastic recycling, raised money to upgrade lighting throughout the school to low energy LED lighting, installation of environmentally friendly cooling options in the gym and upgraded our paper recycling collectors to local traceable companies.
