What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held annually encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for 60 minutes.

Every year, hundreds of millions of people around the world in more than 7,000 cities in over 190 countries take part by switching off their lights as a gesture of solidarity to show they care about our planet’s future.

When is it?

This year, Earth Hour is Saturday 27 March, from 8:30 – 9:30pm.

Participation in Earth Hour

WWF is calling on students, parents and teachers across Australia to make the switch for nature to support Australia’s switch to a renewables-based economy. So, as well as switching off lights, individuals and organisations are encouraged to:

  • Switch to solar power
  • Switch your ride
  • Switch to a reusable drink bottle

At FPS, we will be completing activities in the lead up to Earth Hour focused around some of the impacts of climate change as well as some simple changes that can be made to support the future of our planet.
