A term highlight for the year five students has been embarking on the solar boat challenge. Students have been tasked to build a boat out of recycled materials that will accommodate a solar panel. gr5-13Through the exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, students have discovered how to design boats that include consideration to; specifications, density, buoyancy, surface area, drag, angles, voltage, circuitry and energy types.

Students have been collaborating in teams of four and tthe testing of buoyancy has recently been completed. Teams are now readying themselves to pass the specifications inspections and, once the sun returns, will record their speeds at the Northcote Aquatic Centre, to see who will proceed to the State Finals.
