French6Bonjour Everyone,

On Thursday 14 July, all students were welcome to spend time in the French room at lunch time to celebrate Bastille Day. Activities included Eiffel Tower building, Matisse art collage, word/language games such as snap and memory, singing French songs, designing French masks and participating in games. The room was decorated with some balloons and Bastille Day posters and plenty of Edith Piaf music could be heard!

I just want to say a big Merci Beaucoup to staff and students for helping and supporting the day by sharing books, balloons and craft materials, discussing Bastille Day in class, dropping in to say bonjour and wearing berets! I had just over 50 student visitors to the French room. It was a very positive, happy and enjoyable time. Grace Barker, our wonderful school French captain, stayed for the entire session helping out. All visitor names went in to a draw and the winners were Christina Barker 3/4F and Clare O’Sullivan 5C who received French stationery as their prize.

Term three is off to a great start

  • Foundation students enjoying their first lessons. We are enjoying learning songs and greetings, numbers and simple phrases.
  • Grade 1/2 students are learning a new song: “Tu as un animal?” which means Have you got a pet? We are learning vocabulary such as un chat, un chien, un cheval, un poisson rouge, un oiseau, un tortue, un lapin. We will be working on simple conjugation of the verb Avoir (to have): J’ai un animal or Je n’ai pas un animal.
  • Grade 3/4 classes have begun weather reporting! It seems that there is a lot of “Il pleut” and “Il fait mauvais” at the moment with the wintry downpours!
  • Grades 5 and 6 are just about to take off on some class projects. They are working on elements of the French language such as phrases, expressions and verbs.

Please feel free to drop into the French room to see me if you have any questions or you just want to say Bonjour!

À bientôt,
