Students are to be congratulated for their smooth start to Term 2. They have settled back seamlessly, and are engaged and focused in their learning.

Professional development of staff continues to be an important part of the school’s ongoing goal of improving student outcomes. Staff are learning about the importance of providing opportunities for students to think and reflect about their learning. Whenstudents are given opportunities to think and reflect deeply on their learning they can:

  • Articulate what they have learned
  • Recognise why they are learning this
  • Control their own learning

It is by giving students time to discuss their thinking that they are able to give more thoughtful, contemplative or creative responses. Providing thinking time empowers the students to think originally rather than searching for predetermined answers.

At Fairfield Primary, we aim to facilitate this development by providing a classroom environment where everyone’s input is valued; there is time to think, respond, reflect and develop ideas; it is safe to take risks; the learning is connected to our lives.
