Team Triathlon Event

sport18The term four calendar is packed with many exciting events and this is certainly the case for Sport. The Northcote District was host to a team triathlon event. This year’s event was an outstanding success with 105 students from Fairfield Primary School participating in races. It was incredible to see so many smiles on the faces of the bike riders as they crossed the line regardless of where they finished. The triathlon is a participation event with students of all abilities able to take part; students do not advance through to any further competition. Congratulations to all of the students who participated from Fairfield Primary School. I hope you enjoyed the chance to be involved.

Junior School Sports Day: 29 November

Coming up on Tuesday 29 November is the Foundation – Year 2 Junior School Sports Day. The morning starts with the junior students divided into mixed age groups based on their House group and rotating through a number of different sports stations. The Grade 6 students have been working industriously in PE to create these activities and will be taking responsibility for running them on the day. It is fantastic to watch the Grade 6 students—who participated in this day only four years earlier—they still have fond memories of their own Junior School Sports Days.

After recess, students will compete in a race across the oval against other students in their year level. The emphasis is on having a go and enjoying the race – not winning. The same may not be true for the following event where parents and staff will be invited to run in a race, so please come prepared! Parents are welcome and encouraged to come along and attend any part of the day or even the whole event.

Year 3 – 6 Swimming Carnival: 2 December

The final sporting event for the year will be the Year 3 – 6 Swimming Carnival. This will take place at the Northcote Aquatic Centre on Friday 2 December from 9:30am – 12:30pm. Races are held in the 50m and 25m outdoor pool. All students who have signed up to compete in 50m events need to be confident in their abilities to swim 50m in deep water. In each race, students compete to earn House points towards the swimming carnival shield and the overall House points cup.

Once again, parents are welcome to attend this event. Any parent who is able to help out with the running of the event, please send an email to the school (fairfield.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au) or speak to Geoff McShane.
