Long Weekend

We wish all our families a lovely four-day break this weekend. As we race towards the end of the year, it is always wonderful to have the opportunity to take time out, rest and recharge. Enjoy your Monday and Tuesday school-free days.

Please note, the Fairfield OSH Club will be hosted at Alphington Primary School on Monday. Parents who still require care on Monday can book in at Alphington Primary School through the same OSH Club website.

Curriculum Day—A Focus on Writing

While Monday 31 October is a pupil-free day at Fairfield PS, our staff will be on-site and engaged in a professional development session focused on writing. Teams will review our writing curriculum and commence some moderation of student writing samples. Teachers are also starting the process of assessment in preparation for report writing. Student reports are a culmination of many assessments, conversations and review of student learning. This is an ongoing process across the semester and involves not just the class teacher but the Area Team and all staff.

Victorian Solar Boat Challenge

Congratulations to all our year five solar boat challenge teams who competed at Scienceworks last weekend. It was a long, windy afternoon with over a thousand participants from many primary and secondary schools. This was our first involvement in this state wide event.

Fairfield PS had two teams make it to the semi-finals and we were thrilled to be the recipients of two awards:

  • Best use of recycled materials
  • Best new school entry

With so many schools competing, this is a fantastic achievement.

We wish to thank all the parents who came and supported the children on the day—we could not have done it without you. The day was fun and a great learning experience for all who attended.

Please come by the school office and check out the solar boat display. See the posters and boats created by students—it is evident that so much was learned through the participation in this event.
