Public Speaking Competition

APR15-public-speaking

On Tuesday, Tarrah Brown and Will Grage-Perry represented our school at the Northcote High School Public Speaking competition. This is an annual event involving eight local schools, and Fairfield PS was delighted to take part in the experience.

This year’s theme was, ‘With Experience Comes Wisdom’. Last term, Martin Ramsay from Northcote High School visited Fairfield PS and discussed the competition and theme with all of our year six students. Students received a criteria on which their speeches would be assessed; Presentation, Voice, Language, Content, General. The speeches were to be three minutes.

All year six students prepared and presented a speech based on this theme. Classmates rated their speeches based on the criteria, and as a result Tarrah and Will were the chosen students from FPS.

The quality of the speeches at the competition was outstanding. Tarrah and Will are to be congratulated for the confidence that they displayed in a nerve-wracking setting.

We look forward to continuing to be a part of this program.

End of Year Concert with Thornbury High School

On Tuesday evening, the Fairfield PS orchestra had the opportunity to perform in Thornbury High School’s End of Year Concert at The Furlan Club. It was a terrific experience as the students performed ‘Hedwig’s Theme’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ with the year eight concert band. Members of our brass orchestra also perfomed ‘Bunyip Blues’ with the year seven concert band. A special mention for Ethan Wainwright who played the trumpet with the senior concert band—being asked to perform with year 12 students indicates what a talented musician Ethan is.

Thank you to Ursula Woods and Elise Winterflood for their coordination and hard work behind the scenes, and for their support of this musical relationship with Thornbury High School.
