Scooters and School

Many students at Fairfield Primary School ride their scooters to school each day. We encourage and support this healthy practice. Unfortunately, many scooters are the same brand and size and as a result some scooters are going missing or are sometimes mistakenly taken home by the incorrect owner. It is important to write a name on any items that students bring to school, making them easily identifiable. It is also important to discuss with your child responsible behaviours, such as taking note of where they leave their scooter, so they can be sure they are taking care of their belongings.

If you have noticed that your child has brought home the incorrect scooter please return it to school. Hopefully we can have all scooters returned to their correct owners. Also, please clearly label any items, including scooters, coming to school with your child’s name. If you have any questions about this, contact the school.

Book Week Reflection

Our annual Book Week parade and Literacy Activity Day, held 24 August, was a great success. Grade six students emceed the parade and ran the literacy day group activities. Here are a couple of student reflections on the day.

I love book week. It’s a good chance to meet other kids, older and younger. It seems book week brings smiles.

When the classes are put together, they are always mixed gender, and mixed ages, that’s what I enjoy. I assume that all the kids that participate in book week enjoy the activities. I believe we put a lot of thought into our activity. Our reading was the highlight; the students were surprised with noises that were presented out of nowhere. The kids looked up at us and weren’t afraid to ask questions. They felt safe and not small compared to us grade 6’s.

It was a great responsibility and privilege to host book week activities. I was dedicated and used a lot of my time during the days and nights on trying to deliver a great activity for the students in our class. I would definitely allow the grade 6 to do it next year. It is great practice for high school. It requires a lot of organization and responsibility. Everyone would enjoy it. ~ Cameron Heath, 6C

My last book day at FPS was amazing. We got together at the start of the day inside the gym to parade our characters to everyone. There were lots of great characters.

The activities we did for the short listed children’s book were fun. We got to plan an activity for Suri’s Wall. We read the book to the kids and got them to draw what was on the other side of the wall on a brick template. We then built a wall with them.

Overall my last book day was pretty amazing! ~ Matilda Symons, 6A

Have you seen our new landscaping?

The newly landscaped area around the double-storey portable classrooms and our Langridge St side gate is looking great. The children are enjoying and making use of this updated space.

Tennis in Stages—Term Four Lessons

Tennis lessons will be held at FPS during term four. Cost for a seven-week term is $80. Each lesson consists of different themes with lots of fun games. Coaches work on footwork, balance skills, decision making and the fundamentals of each stroke.

Click for further details and an enrolment form. Free tennis racquet with each new enrolment!

Premiers Reading Challenge—Ends 9 September

There is one week left of the Premiers Reading Challenge (PRC). Many children across the school have participated in and read a set number of books. Well done! Come see our display bones—which recognizes the participants who have met the challenge—just outside the library.

The names of successful student names will be published in the Age. If you would like your child’s name to appear on the Age’s Honour Roll, please sign the form and return it to the school office.

Happy Reading!

OSHClub Program Update

We hope you’ve all had a wonderful term and you’re super excited for some warm weather like we are! OSHClub would like to communicate to families about what’s been happening in our program.

During the term we have had some challenging behaviours from children who attend OSHClub. We have been approaching these challenges head-on and collaborating with families involved and the school, if necessary. At OSHClub we have certain rules and expectations, as a reminder here they are:

  1. Treat others the way you would like to be treated
  2. Always walk inside
  3. Children must ask staff before leaving boundaries including going to the bathroom
  4. Shoes are to be worn at all times (no school shoes in the gym)
  5. We wash our hands before eating and after going to the bathroom
  6. Keep your hands and feet to yourself
  7. Use appropriate  language and noise level
  8. Always be polite, use your manners and listen when staff members are talking
  9. We shouldn’t play fight—someone could get hurt!
  10. Everyone should be included in the program
  11. Bags are kept neatly outside under grade signs
  12. When we are eating we sit down and use a plate/cutlery/tongs provided
  13. Always pack up after yourself
  14. Sports equipment and toys are packed away when finished and treated nicely
  15. We stay within the outside boundaries at all times
  16. Always be kind and respectful to everyone around you, no matter how old or young they are

Our main philosophy at Fairfield OSHClub is that we provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment for all children attending.

If any families have concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to contact us at the program.

Regards,

~ Lauren, OSHClub Coordinator
