Cross Country Congratulations!

TDiamond-fTDiamondTerm three has begun with outstanding success of Will Mooney who finished 11th at the State Final of Cross Country for 9/10 year boys and Thomas Diamond who WON the State Cross Country Final for the 12/13 year boys. It is a magnificent effort from both runners to firstly compete at such an elite level of competition, as well as their achievements in placing 11th and first. I am very proud of the efforts from Will and Tom and wish Tom the best of luck at the National Carnival to be held in Canberra.

Tom will now travel to Canberra and be part of the Victorian Schools Sport Team and compete in the Australian Cross Country Championships on 19 August. In order to support Tom to compete at the National Carnival in Canberra, we will be assisting him with selling School Sport Victoria raffle tickets where funds will be put towards the cost for him to participate.

Mark Your Calendar—Northcote District Athletics Carnival

Looking ahead, the Northcote District Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 19 August at Collingwood Harriers Track. Forty students have been selected to represent the school at this event based on results from our school athletic carnival. Names and events of all entries are posted on the BER foyer window. Students who are representing the school in hurdles, shot put or discuss, and who would like to borrow some equipment to practise, need to have parental consent provided to Geoff McShane.

Alternative Sports and Interschool Sports

I am pleased to announce that as part of the alternative sports program this term the grade 5 students will participate in four lessons of Table Tennis. This unit will run on Friday mornings and will commence in August.

There is no grade 6 interschool sport during term three. The summer sports roster will commence again in term four, with four more games scheduled. There are still a number of winter sports uniforms that have not been returned. Could these please be washed and returned to Geoff McShane as soon as possible, thank you.

Swimming Program

The first lessons of the 2016 Fairfield Learn to Swim Program commenced today. Lessons will be conducted every Friday for eight weeks. Parents are welcome to attend and watch these lessons. Please talk to your child’s teacher if you are able to assist with helping the children change clothing (a Working With Children’s Check is required). I look forward to a wonderful program and seeing the students improve across the eight weeks.
