image6Cyclone Winston — Fiji’s worst-recorded cyclone — swept across the island nation on February 20, leaving a wake of devastation in it’s path. This cyclone had an immediate impact on members of the FPS community. Students Simi (3/4B) and Taioma (Prep C) learned that the village on the island of Avea, where their grandmother Fane Fricker grew up, was in the direct path of the cyclone and much of it was destroyed, including their grandmother’s house.

Courtney Gale, mother of Simi and Taioma, liaised with the Fairfield Fair Committee to collect children’s books, clothes and cooking implements to be sent to Avea. Friends, family and the local community stepped up and raised the funds needed to pay for the shipment of the container of donations.

We at FPS are thrilled to share the thank you letters we have received from students and the principal of Avea Primary School.  The people of Fiji4this island, many of which are children, were very grateful for the generosity of our school community. These letters are posted on our Community notice board, in the undercover area by the staff room.
