This has been one of the busiest weeks of the term and our What’s On this week demonstrates this. From the Sunday Working Bee, School Council, Athletics Day, Drama Toolbox incursion, Kaan’s Winya opening, School Open Day, Melbourne Museum excursion, Grade 6 presentations, Class Liaison Representatives morning tea and back to the Farmer’s Market…. everyday the students, staff and parents have been involved and engaged in the breadth of daily life at Fairfield Primary School. We have had an amazing week and it is a tribute to all that we have achieved so much. I hope everyone has a restful weekend.

You’re invited: ‘What does it mean to be a learner in the 21st century?’ by Wayne Craig

In the everyday busy schedule of school life it is sometimes hard to find the time to have the rich conversations that open up new ideas and different ways of WayneCraigunderstanding about the teaching and learning landscape that we are all involved in; either as parents and/or educators. Hence, we are very pleased to be offering such an occasion and would like to invite all parents to an evening with Mr Wayne Craig. Wayne Craig is highly respected for his educational leadership at the school, system and global level and for his research into school improvement. Wayne is the project director of the Mitchell Institute board. We are part of a unique large scale improvement project  ‘Curiosity and Powerful Learning’ which involves 100 schools in Queensland and Victoria working with three universities  to develop excellence in teaching and learning practices within a 21st century context. Wayne is the director and passionate driver of this project.

Wayne’s research and professional learning has formed much of our whole school focus on improving our practice and building a culture of continuous improvement for the benefit of our children. We are very privileged to have this one off opportunity for Wayne to present to parents about ‘what does it mean to be a learner in the 21st century?’ He is a very engaging presenter with a wealth of knowledge and insight into the changing contexts of our world and how best to prepare children for this landscape. We will use the evening to also share our School Annual Report. We hope that you can attend.

  • Date: Wednesday 1st June:  7.00 – 8.30pm
  • Venue: Class 3/4 classroom
  • We would appreciate a quick RSVP via the Compass Insights Cycle (located at the top of your News Feed) for catering purposes. Refreshments will be provided.

Working Bee and Kaan’s Winya

We had a great working bee last Sunday and achieved so much. The school looked resplendent for Kaan’s Winya opening and the foundation students were delighted with the new full size marble run. I would like to thank all of the parents and staff who came along and supported the school with some gardening and general maintenance. It is a real pleasure to see such willingness to support the school. The level of volunteer support is amazing at Fairfield and we are always grateful for the involvement in the various ways that parents do offer.winya1

I would like to iterate the sentiments of the staff who truly appreciate the generosity of parents at this school. We do not ever expect parents to volunteer as it is just that, voluntary and without expectation. There are many ways to support the school and we know that every parent has a busy schedule and many long  working hours, so that leisure and family time are a priority and sometimes a luxury. Whatever small or frequent time that you offer, we are very grateful. Our children benefit in so many ways and the most recent celebration of Kaan’s Winya is a true testament of our community generosity and engagement.

During the opening ceremony, the children experienced the smoking ceremony, led by aboriginal elder ‘Uncle Ian Hunter’ and enjoyed learning some of the dances from the Dardee Balagamdail Aboriginal Dance Group. Together we officially opened the Winya and the significant message that we shared was how special the winya is as part of our landscape.  We can take great pride in this achievement for the school. Already the children are thoroughly exploring and enjoying their winya.

Enrolments 2017

We have had many families tour the school during our Open Day. We would like to request that siblings of current families who are starting school next year submit their enrolment form by the 20th June. Enrolment places are always in demand. Please support our planning by ensuring that we have your child’s enrolment details for our 2017 intake.
