The grade five classes have been extremely busy and productive over the past few weeks. Here are a number of recounts, written by grade five students, informing us of all their hard work.

Peter Pan Concert

Written by Vanika Nature (5A)peterpanperformance

On the 28th of the March, all the grade 5 and 6 students had their Senior School Concert at Darebin Art Centre. Curtains were raised at 7:00 pm. It was very exciting and everything went very well. There was dancing, singing, acting and most importantly teamwork. For grade 5’s it was their first concert and for grade 6’s it was their last concert at Fairfield Primary School. Everyone had lots of fun and was tired after the concert – but it was great. I would like to thank Keri, our music teacher, who helped us with our props, dances and acting. It would have been impossible without her and our class teacher’s help and support.

Wheelchair Sports

Written by Krishanwheelchair2 Gurdon and Declan Saligari (5c)

In Term 2 2016, the grade 5’s have been doing wheelchair sports. Some instructors came and told us some ways you could end up in a wheel chair. Most grade 5’s look forward to the period because it is fun for everyone. We have learnt that no matter what happens always live life the fullest.

We really enjoyed wheelchair sports because it was fun and interactive. It really helps us learn that you need to be safe in everything that you do because you just might end up in a wheelchair forever. It has made us more aware of people in wheelchairs. Wheelchair sport was a great experience and everyone appreciated the opportunity.

The Social Experiment

Written by Tarana Verma (5C)

In the morning on the 18th of March, 5C, 5A and 5B were doing a social test, but the students didn’t know it was an experiment. We thought we were just makinpeterpang Peter Pan concert posters. We weren’t allowed to give any materials to the other groups. One group got the most materials to make their poster with and others got only a few materials. The group that got the most didn’t feel jealous but other groups were feeling it. The only group that finished the poster had only three pencils. At the end of the test we all learnt about needs vs wants. We also learnt about injustice.

We didn’t know we were part of a social experiment, we didn’t know what was about to happen, we just thought that we were
making posters for Peter Pan concert. We were laughing and chatting until Nicole brought out a massive box of craft stuff and starting giving it to one group, always telling them not to share.

The chaos started when Nicole brought out GLITTER and much, much more and a little to some other groups. But there was one group who got NOTHING. And that group was us. Steam rising from people’s heads with anger, our group stared at Nicole as if she was a different person. “They have glitter,” came a voice. The room went dead silent. As everyone stared at each other with anger.

Eventually, Nicole told us what she had done and she said we could use the crafty stuff, AS SOON AS WE FINISHED!!! It made us realise what it’s like in other countries where they think a glass of clean water is actually something where we take it for granted.

Spelling

Spelling Investigation

Written by Kalam Ross, Kon Kogios, Yuvi Sharma and Aryan Nature (5C)

In term 1 and 2, Grade 5 has been investigating and learning some rules of spelling. We learnt about suffixes, vowels, consonants and more. It was quite hard to learn but our grade 5 teachers helped us easily. We first identified words with similarities then we examined these similarities to identify rules. Rules are things that help you spell because if you remember 1 rule you can apply it to lots of other words with ease.
